Meet the Trainers

Nick Derrick
Manager
Exercise has been a passion of mine since I first started lifting in high school. I decided to pursue further education in college and earned my Bachelors Degree in Exercise Science and also became a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist.
Training others has quickly become something I look forward to everyday. Being able to encourage and help others hit their goals has been such a rewarding experience for me.
I challenge you to take a leap of faith, step out of your comfort zone and train with the team at Burleys Gym. Leave your excuses at the door and make a decision to change your life for the better.

I am 27 years old and have truly enjoyed physical fitness for much of my life. In High School I played Varsity Basketball, Baseball, and Soccer. After High School, I attended Moody Bible Institute in Chicago where I worked in a gym and ran the intramural sports department. This gave me experience in refereeing, organizing leagues, and more. After college, I got my personal training certification and have been training for years with all kinds of ages and goals. Throughout each of those seasons, I have continued to pursue my own fitness goals and educating myself. As an athlete, a coach, a trainer, and a referee, I have been able to learn a lot that helps shape my training strategy. Physical fitness has been a big part of my life and I would love to share it with you.

Burley's Gym is a place that challenges you physically as well as mentally, which is why our slogan “Strong-Minded” encompasses our purpose. Everyone at Burley's, whether it be trainer or clients, is there to become a better version of themself. Training is something I don't question myself about. My passion has altered my life in so many different ways. It's brought me people that make me question how I’ve went so long without them and has taught me lessons that I’ll hold onto for a lifetime. This discipline keeps a fire lit inside of me. Training allows me to give the best part of myself to others and impact the lives of those around me. Fitness is a lifestyle, not a habit - creating beasts in and out of the gym.

Yoga
I am an Aligned Yoga 200hr Teacher Training graduate as of 2022, and I discovered yoga when I was 16 years old. That was a time in which I was incredibly immersed in the many benefits that my daily meditation practice was bringing me. Little did I know then that meditation, being a huge aspect of the yoga practice, was the bridge that would catapult me straight into the world of yoga.
Yoga has been the only “constant,” in my life, meaning it’s the one thing I always come back to, no matter how far I wander away from it. As someone who is also very active and also loves lifting weights at the gym, yoga has increased my endurance, mobility, breath awareness, and has greatly enhanced my quality of life in more ways than I could ever count.
I love to say that it’s not about the hour you spend on your mat, but more about how you feel–how the time on your mat reflects onto your life OFF the mat. Yoga is something that can be tapped into at literally any and every moment–it was created to be a way of life rather than something that is just physical. I’m so excited and grateful to be your guide in reminding yourself just how strong you truly are!
